Doula training, becoming a doula, birth doulas, postnatal doulas and external doula certification are all part of the British Doulas service.

You can have a doula for a home birth or a hospital birth. Our trained, certified and police-checked birth doula will visit you before the birth, helping you with your birth plan and answering questions. She will be with you for the whole of your actual birth and later she will visit you at home when you have had the baby. Having been through the experience herself, you can rely on her kindness, encouragement and support.

You could also have a postnatal doula. Have one of our trained and experienced mothers to help you after your birth. You can book her for as many weeks as you like after the birth, part-time or full-time. Doulas are very flexible. They are women who have had a baby of their own – many are still bringing up their own family – and they love to help other mothers and pass on their wisdom, love and genuinely practical support.

Would you want to jeopardize your security, or that of your baby, at this important time? If you use a doula who has not been through a properly certified course and has not been checked by a professional agency like ours, then that is what you could be doing.

You can rely on the service we provide at British Doulas. We are Britain's foremost doula agency and we have more than ten years’ experience in interviewing and checking temporary and permanent staff. We train doulas from all over Britain and place them with families across the country. Ours is the only formally certified doula course in Britain. It can be used towards a City & Guilds qualification (including some practical work after the course). We only place doulas who are trained, interviewed, checked and approved by us and by the independent board of consultants who work with us.

The role of the doula is a relatively new one in this country and so far the job is totally unregulated. This means that anyone can work as a doula, which is potentially dangerous as they are working with very vulnerable mothers and babies. This is why it is essential to use a doula who is vetted and checked by us. All British Doulas' ladies have been through the course run by the company - we will not even consider anyone who has been on a lesser course - they have all been interviewed by us and have had at least two references checked by us. They have also been through a police check and have signed our all-important Code of Ethics which binds them to behave professionally and safely, in accord with rules laid down by us.

We constantly monitor our doulas and will remove from our list any who receive complaints or who behave in a manner that we consider to be dangerous or unethical.
